Day 1

Overnight Flight - Discover the beauty and timeless wonder found only in Greece.

Day 2

Athens, Greece - Begin in the capital city of Athens. This evening join fellow travelers for a welcome dinner in the historic Plaka district, feast on local cuisine and wine while enjoying Greek entertainment.


Day 3

Enjoy a panoramic tour of the highlights of Athens showcasing the city's ancient and glorious monuments, such as the Temple of Zeus, the Royal Palace, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and Olympic Stadium. Next, Your Choice on tour...A tour of the incredible Acropolis OR a walking tour of some of the city's hidden gems, including Pnyx - where democracy was formed in Greece - and the Temple of Hephaestus.


Day 4

Athens - Thermopylae - Meteora - Kalambaka
Travel North through central Greece. Stop to see a monument dedicated to Leonidas who died defending the city against the Persians. Arrive in Meteora and enjoy guided tours of two remote monosteries situated in a unique landscape of limestone rock "towers" that extend nearly 900 feet into the air. End the day at a family-owned taverna where you will savor a delicious meal with recipes passed down from generations.

Day 5

Morning visit to a local studio to see painters at work creating beautiful Byzantine icons. Continue to the ancient city of Delphi, one of Greece's most important religious centers during Classical times. A local expert guides you on a visit to the Sanctuary of Apollo, the Doric Temple, the ancient theater, and the Delphi Museum with its priceless collection of ancient artifacts. Continue on to charming Arachova, a popular ski resort town with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

Day 6

Arachova - Olympia
Travel along the Gulf of Corinth, crossing into the Peloponnese to the historic city of Olympia, a testament to the grandeur of ancient Greek civilization. Visit a local farm in the countryside, meet the owners and learn about everyday life. Taste local wines, olive oil and jams. This evening, broaden your knowledge of traditional Greek musical instruments and folkloric dances at a delightful Greek dance class.

Day 7

Olympia - Guided visit includes a tour of the sanctuary of Zeus, the Olympic Stadium - where the first Olympic Games were held in 776 B.C. - and the museum. Partake in a Mediterrenean cooking experience and learn how to cook some of the regions best dishes.

Day 8

Olympia - Mycenae - Nafplio
Enjoy spectacular scenery as you cross the Arkadian Mountains en route to the ancient city of Mycenae for a guided visit of the excavations featuring the Beehive Tombs and the Lion Gate. Your day ends in the seaside resort of Nafplio.

Day 9

Nafplio - Athens
Enjoy morning free time to explore Nafplio before heading back to Athens. Celebrate the end of a memorable trip with a delightful farewell dinner.

Day 10

Athens - Chicago - Home cities
After breakfast, head to the airport for return flight to Chicago.

TOUR INCLUSIONS: Collette tour director, roundtrip motorcoach / airport / resort transfers, roundtrip air, luggage handling at hotels, admissions/attractions, and 15 meals, including 8 breakfasts, 1 lunch, and 6 dinners.

ACTIVITY LEVEL 3 / HEAVY WALKING: Physical stamina required. Stair climbing, longer periods of walking and/or standing may be involved, along with higher elevations and longer days. Participants must be able to keep up with the group.  Many activites in this itinerary include walking on uneven terrain.  Some of the unique experiences mean accessing locations by foot because motorcoaches are restricted.
